MRC leadership and teambuilding workshop

The weekend of 24-26th december this year will forever be etched in the minds of the 58 participants who attended the MRC leadership and teambuilding workshop organised by Residential, Management & Discipline Department (RMDD). The three days two night, held at Hotel Impian Morib Resort, Morib Selangor Darul Ehsan, was a compulsory activity for all Mahallah Representative Committee of all mahallah in PJ and Nilai campus. The objectives of the LTW were to instil leadership qualities and improve teamwork among participants. All activities were conducted by success touch facilitators.

Most of the participats were very excited throughout the 45 minute journey to the Hotel Impian Morib Resort. Upon arrival, they were immediately whisked off to the seminar room where they were given a briefing on the rules and regulations about the programme by the facilitators. Then, they were put into groups of nine and the ice breaking was started.

Apparently, this was the first test of our teamwork skills and fortunately, many of us passed with flying colours. After dinner, we had a group dynamics activity, where we had to come up with names, logos and cheer for our groups. Well, with names like the MRC Quack and MRC Gegar, and cheer, the students of Centre For Foundation Studies International Islamic University Malaysia proved that they are indeed a creative lot.

The second day of the programme started off with an early morning activities session at 5.45am. we started our morning with jamaah prayers and tazkirah from one of the MRC’s presidents. After the tazkirah we been given enough time for a quick shower and breakfast, before we took part in more group activities. After isyak prayer, we were ordered by the facilitator to gathered at Hotel loby on 9 pm. That night was the exausted night because were needed to play a candle light war game. These games required two team which is attacker and defender. The attacker was needed to attack the defender and blow out the candle. The winner decided by how many candles are blown out. The games ended with success. These activities sure were physically and mentally challenging.

On the final morning, we had a hearty breakfast, and closing ceremony which was followed by a feedback session. During the final session, we were required to organised a closing ceremony in one hour. This session, we were given the opportunity to use our all that had been tought to us to conduct the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony was a success and we receive compliment from Mdm Rose Haliza Harun, deputy dean of RMDD. At the feedback session, Many of the participants voice their feelings and opinions regarding the LTW. We learnt about the importance of teamwork, consideration, tolerance and understanding. Most importantly, we learnt that good leadership is responsible leadership.

Jadilah Wanita Solehah

Suatu kisah
Kisah benar belaka
seorang pemuda dalam pencarian
Mencari pemilik rusuk kirinya

Sudah bertahun bersendirian
Muncullah calon yang entah ke berapa
Seperti biasa
Diusulkan emak tersayang

Bukan calang-calang calon yang diusulkan
Lulusan universiti Timur Tengah
Menghormati permintaan si anak
Yang mahu pendamping solehah
Sejuk mata memandang
Bertudung labuh litup
Pandai berbahasa Arab
Pendek kata tip top!

Si pemuda mulakan istikharah
Hampir berminggu
Setelah meneliti gambar
Mula mencari maklumat
Sebelum sesi taaruf bermula
Si pemuda menjenguk ke web
Laman Friendster kegemaran ramai
Yang kini Facebook
Satu keajaiban!!!

Si lelaki tidak pernah punya web sedemikian
Tiba-tiba tergamam
Si gadis masih anggun
Bertudung labuh litup
Namun, bergambar sakan
Aduh!

Terkejut bukan kepalang
Calon solehah direject tanpa ihsan
Bukan menjadi pilihan
Kerana gambar ditayang
Dengan penuh sakan

Pemilihan terbatal
Dia pernah berkata

Perempuan cantik itu
Tidak memandang dan tidak dipandang

Perempuan cantik itu
Tidak mengenali dan tidak dikenali

Perempuan cantik itu
Tidak menegur dan tidak ditegur

Akhirnya
Solehah kempunan calon soleh
Merayu untuk dipertimbangkan

Tapi sayang sekali
Si Pemuda tetap
Tidak berganjak dengan keputusan

Wahai Muslimah
Aku dan kamu
Mari mempelajari, mencontohi
Watak-watak wanita salafussoleh
Sifat, pengorbanan dan perjuangan mereka

Kerana wanita solehah itu
Lebih baik daripada
Seribu lelaki yang tidak soleh

Welcome Ramadhan

Ramadhan Al-Mubarak

It is noteworthy that the month of Ramadan is a blessed month and an opportunity for every Muslim to draw near to Allah, increase his morality and spirituality and to gain abundant reward. In this regard, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, president of the Fiqh Council ofNorth America, states:

Almighty Allah says, (Your Lord does create and choose as He pleases …) (Al-Qasas 28: 68)

Allah is the Creator of everything visible and invisible. Everything in the heaven and earth belongs to Him and serves Him. Allah is also the Creator of time and space. As Allah chose some persons to be His Prophets and Messengers, and as He chose some places to become the sacred spots on this earth, similarly He also chose some time to become the sacred time. The sacred personalities teach us about Allah, His will, His rules and commands. The sacred places and times remind us about Allah’s special favors and blessings. In Islam we worship only Allah. We neither worship any person other than Allah, not any space or time. But certain spaces and times inspire us and motivate us to do good things. One of those important and sacred moments for us is Ramadan. It is a special month and a special time. Allah says in the Qur’an:

(The month of Ramadan is that in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, with clear signs for guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful. When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed quite near: I listen and answer the call of every caller when he calls Me. Let them listen to My call, and believe in Me; so that they may be guided aright.) (Al-Baqarah 2: 185-186)

The blessed month of Ramadan is a great time and a beautiful time as well. We thank Allah that He is giving us another occasion to witness this blessed time in our life. May He help us to benefit from this season of virtues and blessings and may He grant us His love, mercy and forgiveness now and forever, Ameen.

Ramadan is a great month. This is the month of the Qur’an, and in this month is the Night of Qadr, which is better than one thousand months. Allah chose this month and a particular night in this month to grace humanity with His Final Testament, His Last Message, the Qur’an. The moment of this revelation became a sacred moment, and that time and month became an eternal time for us. Allah chose this time, and He has filled it with His countless blessings. In this month we have a greater urge and desire to do good deeds. This month becomes the month of virtues and blessings for us. This is the month about which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“When the first night of Ramadan comes, the devils and rebellious jinns are put in chains and the doors of hell are closed, none of them remains open. The doors of heaven are open and none of them remains closed. And a caller calls, ‘O seeker of goodness, come forward, and O seeker of evil, desist. And Allah has many (in this month) who will be freed from Hell.’ This announcement is made every night." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 618)

Ramadan is meant for our moral and spiritual training and for the purification of our bodies, minds and souls. This is an annual training program for all believers. It is a special time to get closer to Allah and to seek His blessings and bounties. It is a time to learn taqwa (God-fearing), piety, self-discipline and patience. It is a time to give more charity and become more generous. It is a time to seek Allah’s forgiveness and to forgive each other. It is a time to be thankful to Allah for His gifts and bounties and especially His gift of iman.

THE PRICE OF IMAAN

www.iluvislam.com
thelightofmyiman

Several years ago, an imaam moved to London. He often took the bus from his home to the downtown area. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the same bus. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him twenty pence too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you had better give the twenty pence back. It would be wrong to keep it.

Then he thought, oh forget it, it is only twenty pence. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company already gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from Almighty Allah and keep quite.

When his stop came, the Imam paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the twenty pence back to the driver and said;

"Here, you gave me too much change."

The driver with a smile replied;

"Aren't you the new Imaam in this area? I have been thinking lately about going to worship at your mosque. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change".

When the Imaam stepped off the bus, his knees became weak and soft. He had to grab the nearest light pole and held for support, and looked up to the heavens and cried;

"Oh Allah, I almost sold Islam for twenty pence!"

Remember, we may never see the impact our actions have on people. Sometimes we are the only knowledge of Quran someone will read, or the only Islam a non-Muslim will see. What we need to provide, inshaAllah is an example for others to see. Be careful and be honest everyday, because you never know who is watching your actions and judging you as a Muslim.
